Nijgh & Van Ditmar is one of the oldest publishing houses in the Netherlands, but one of the youngest at heart. Since 1987 Nijgh & Van Ditmar has been part of the reputable Dutch publishing house Em. Querido’s uitgeverij B.V. Our fiction list is famous for its classical Dutch twentieth-century authors such as J. Slauerhoff, Nescio and F. Bordewijk.

In recent years, novelists with a strong sense of realism and an unpretentious idiosyncrasy have been added to our backlist. Among them are Wanda Bommer, Arnon Grunberg, Lisette Lewin, Nicolien Mizee, Frans Pointl, Marja Pruis, Vrouwkje Tuinman, Robert Vuijsje and Robbert Welagen.

We have also been expanding our fiction list with foreign authors in translation: Diana Athill, Roddy Doyle, Bob Dylan, Jonathan Goldstein, Laurent Graff, G. Bruce Knecht, Ann-Marie MacDonald, Joe Simpson and Sarah Waters.

The non fiction list includes biographies and topics ranging from lyrics & cabaret to travel and culture. Each of our non fiction writers has found his or her own almost literary way of telling a story.
